Grundstoffer med navne fra Greek
Græske rødder udgør den største enkelte kilde til grundstofnavne. Ord som hydro (vand), chloros (bleggrøn), argos (doven), kryptos (skjult) og helios (sol) formede, hvordan kemikere navngav nye opdagelser fra slutningen af 1700-tallet og frem. Omkring en tredjedel af de moderne navne kan spores tilbage til græsk.
